Pros and Cons of Reclining Furniture

Cons of Reclining Furniture

Have you ever wondered whats so great about reclining furniture? Or have you thought to yourself I don’t understand how anyone couldn’t love reclining furniture. Well let us lay it out for you. Some Reasons as to why a person wouldn’t enjoy reclining furniture in their home is because of the look of it. They may find it too bulky, not as tailored, maybe it doesn’t quite fit the layout of their house, or it might just not suite the aesthetic of their home.

Pros of Reclining Furniture

Others may love their reclining furniture, and we get it cause we love it too. Reclining furniture can be loved for many reasons such as the comfort of it. When sitting in Reclining furniture you can experience personalized comfort in your own home while kicking your feet up and laying back. Reclining furniture allows its user to fit it to their liking,  they can kick up their feet up to whatever angle feels comfortable along with a nice headrest to enjoy television or read a book. Some reclining furniture also allows the user to control heat and massages which is always a plus in comfort.

Benefits Of Reclining Furniture

Some Recliners even have the health benefit of heart improvement along with reduction of regular neck and back pain due to the zero gravity aspect of the furniture. Some users also enjoy the convenience of the furniture such as small storage spaces, cup holders, and even USB ports. Others may like that its convenient to move the furniture into their home because of the availability to take them apart in order to fit into small doorways. Reclining Furniture can also be heavy because of the contents of it but some may see it as a plus because it wont slide and others may see it as a downside because it may be hard to move for cleaning or rearranging. Here at Plymouth Furniture we give the option to customize reclining furniture we offer different frames and a variety of styles that you may choose from. Overall Reclining furniture may seem not too nice to a few…but here at Plymouth Furniture we love everything about it, the comfort, benefits, convenience, and look!

COVID-19 & The Supply Chain

When the clock struck twelve back on January first of 2020, America was looking forward to a year of opportunity, improvement, and success. Little did we know a microscopic virus three months later would change the course of not only our country, but the entire world.

The Power of the Pandemic

Supply and demand must reach a point of equilibrium in their relationship in order to be beneficial to the economy. The recent pandemic shifted this equilibrium in the furniture supply chain, causing demand to skyrocket and supply to plummet.

When COVID-19 shut down the United States, the furniture industry was blindsided. Manufacturers responded by preparing themselves for a recession by cancelling supply orders. However, with everyone stuck at home, consumers began to invest in their homes using extra money from cancelled vacations and stimulus checks. Since they’d originally anticipated no demand, manufacturers were slow to respond due to depleted warehouses and lack of raw material. Foam is a frequently used material in the furniture industry.  As the demand for furniture rose, as did the demand for foam. The prices furniture manufacturers and other companies were willing to pay increased dramatically. A majority of foam’s raw materials are sourced from foam suppliers in Texas and Louisiana. Unusual freezing temperatures during the winter led to foam manufactures not being able to produce foam in normal quantities. Combined with the COVID-19 shutdown, the freeze left the foam industry with a huge demand, but no supply at the ready. Partners in Vietnam and China had already shut down prior to the U.S. back in February of 2020, causing supply chain issues. In addition, new COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing and a loss of workers cut productivity. Shipping suffered through COVID with an increase in container prices and not enough truck drivers for both raw goods and product.

So What Now?

Right now, eager buyers are facing long delays for their purchases. Turnaround times have increased greatly since last March. For example, pre-COVID, one of our manufacturer’s turnaround times was about three weeks. Currently, it is at thirty weeks. As of now, these are the current turnaround times for our different manufacturers:

  • Albany: 40 weeks
  • Ashley: 16 weeks
  • Best Craft: 40 weeks
  • Best Home Furnishings: 35 weeks
  • Coaster: 24 weeks
  • Door County Furniture: 18 weeks
  • Flexsteel: 30 weeks
  • International Furniture Direct: 20 weeks
  • Jofran: 20 weeks
  • LaZBoy: 40 weeks (recliners), Close to 1 Year (sectionals, stationary, and lift furniture).
  • Leather Italia: 30+ weeks
  • Leick: 20 weeks
  • Perdue: 30 weeks
  • Perfect Choice: 20 weeks
  • Sealy/Stearns & Foster: 4-6 weeks
  • Southern Motion: 38-40 hours
  • Sunny Designs: 40 weeks
  • Surya: 6-8 weeks
  • Tennessee Enterprises: 20 weeks
  • TempurPedic: 2-4 weeks
  • Ultra Comfort: 12
  • Wolfcraft: 20 weeks

As COVID-19 rules and regulations are slowly but surely
disappearing, expect prices to continue to rise. While uncertainty in the industry makes all plans subject to adjustment and reevaluation, Plymouth Furniture promises to continue doing our best for our customers.

New Storefront

Out With the Old and In With the New

Change is happening here at Plymouth Furniture. If you’ve swung by our store recently, you might have noticed a few differences. After 21 years, we decided it was time to replace our storefront with a brand new sign made by Marshall Sign, LLC.

Not only does the new and improved sign show off our updated logo, but is also versatile. It’s appearance depends on what time you decide to visit us. During the day, the sign appears to be burgundy and grey, the staple colors of Plymouth Furniture. However, at night, the sign radiates bright white. Make sure to stop by in the A.M. and P.M. to see both looks!

In addition to our storefront, we have added renovations to our Stearns & Foster and Tempur-Pedic galleries. The new black wooden panels and dusty blue walls create a sleek and modern ambiance in the store.

While there has been a lot of change in the past months, we will always promise to hold on to the core values of Plymouth Furniture. We take pride in our affordable prices, large selection, and top notch customer service. Signs may come and go, but our commitment to you will remain.

Power Foundations for your Mattress

Power Foundations are becoming a necessity for your new mattress.

When you are having back problems have you ever spent the night in the recliner because you couldn’t sleep flat. That is one of the great things about a power foundation. You can put it up just a little bit to releave pressure off of your back.

Another option for a King Mattress is to get it with two power foundations. Each side you would put a twin fitted sheet and use a king comforter. That way each person can customize the power foundation the way they want.

The right mattress makes your day better.

Having the right mattress can change your whole day.

You spend over a third of your life on your mattress, make sure you have the right one. Plymouth Furniture has over 40 styles on display and over 150 mattresses in stock. Plymouth Furniture carries Tempur-pedic, Sealy, Stearns and Foster, Ashley, and Corsicana Mattresses.

Leather Furniture Gallery in Sheboygan County.

Leather is one of the best materials used to upholster furniture. It is extremely durable and is able to come in lots of colors. In general many manufacturers of motion or reclining furniture use top grain leather everywhere you could touch the furniture when you are sitting in it. On the back and sides they often use what is called vinyl match. That is vinyl that is colored to match the color of the leather. This helps save money and does not compromise the feel. The only downside can be that over time the leather and vinyl may not fade at the same speed.

Above photo is a high leg recliner by Southern Motion, made in the USA, available in hundreds of fabrics and leathers.

Plymouth Furniture has one of the largest leather furniture galleries in Sheboygan County, WI. There are a great selection of colors. Some of the manufacturers that upholster with leather are Flexsteel, Southern Motion, Best Home Furnishings, and Ashley Furniture.

If you are looking for leather furniture in the Sheboygan, WI area go to Plymouth Furniture’s website and type “Leather” in the search field.

Transitioning Your Home Decor for Springtime

The snow is finally melting and temperatures are finally rising … Spring is here! Make sure your home décor is as refreshed and recharged as you are, with these tips and ideas to help your style blossom.

Interior Greenery

Growing live plants in your home is a great way to begin transitioning your home décor.

Tabletop terrariums, succulents, or ferns in a sunny nook add texture and color to your seating area. A birdbath, indoors, can be filled to make the perfect miniature garden before your outdoor plants bloom.

When selecting indoor plants, keep in mind that some houseplants are more resilient than others. Pay attention to watering instructions and the type/duration of light they require when placing them around your home.

Add Some Color

Repainting a room in the perfect pastel is an easy way to recharge your space. Don’t have the time or energy to do an entire room? Pick an accent wall! Or simply find a hue that makes you happy and add an accent chair, light fixture, or rug of your choice.

Love what you already have? You can re-paint the base of lamps, table legs, or reupholster your favorite chair …

Ombre effects are also very trendy right now! Vary the brightness of your favorite color by mixing in different amounts of white paint, and apply to a dresser, bookshelf, or accent table. Start with the darkest shade at one end and gradually paint towards the opposite side.

Fresh Fabrics

Window Treatments can create a complete transformation. Floral patterns can turn your windows into a work of art. Bold patterns can create a fresh update. Tinted sheers can soften the atmosphere.

In addition, your bedding and linens can incorporate everything from florals, to pastels, to bold brights! Store away your dark, warm décor until fall and pick items that remind you of the blooming colors outside.

Do not be afraid to mix complimentary colors as well. An arrangement of throw pillows in a combination of shades can tie together different features in your room.

Floral Prints/Artwork

Create a gallery wall with bright photo frames or floral prints. You can find springtime artwork online, or create your own!

With a few simple supplies (canvases or cardstock, stencils or natural leaves, acrylic paints) you can customize the look and style to your preferences. Check out this tutorial we found, and love! Bonus: It’s kid-friendly.

Rugs and pillows are also a fun way to introduce some non-living flowers to your spring space. Choose colors that make you happy and capture the mood of the season.

Start at the Beginning

Set the tone of your springtime oasis from the moment guests enter your home by strategically placing a small floral arrangement or statement display in your entryway. And get creative! Wooden birdcages, wire baskets, faux nests or eggs will remind everyone of the excitement springtime brings.

Tabletop accessories, such as geometric vases or floral bouquets can decorate small corner tables or shelves, as well.

Attractive Organizing

Fashionable, yet functional, purchases can create eye-catching accents to some of your most chaotic rooms. Use bright containers, or even a collection of eggcups, to organize your smaller office and kitchen supplies. Add a shelf in a bright shade, with complimentary baskets, to take full advantage of your space.

How do you transition to spring in your home? Any fun updates we did not list? We would love to hear about them in the comments below!

Brand Highlight: C.R. Plastic Products

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to our Plymouth Furniture family. An outdoor product line crafted from 100% recycled materials — C.R. Plastic Products!

What began in 1994, as an effort to divert used plastic away from landfills and oceans, has evolved into the pursuit for innovation and design in 100% recycled plastic outdoor furniture.

Jamie Bailey (co-owner and co-founder of C.R. Plastic Products Inc.) developed an innovative proprietary extrusion* process, creating a beautiful product that won’t mold, crack, or rot throughout our traditional Wisconsin seasons. The company itself is focused on maintaining ways to create sustainable, eco-friendly, outdoor furniture!

High density plastic (which is common in post-industrial and post-consumer products such as bottle caps, milk jugs, & orange juice containers) is blended together with pigment, and then melted into molds to provided a genuine lumber look. The 7/8” thick material, with solid colors throughout, has a wood grain finish, contoured backs, and custom molded arms for an unsurpassed fit and finish.

C.R. Plastic’s custom in-house molds make their durable furniture, structurally superior and easy to maintain.  It is clear to see the integrity and quality in each piece, and we are excited to share them with you.
