Transitioning Your Home Decor for Springtime

The snow is finally melting and temperatures are finally rising … Spring is here! Make sure your home décor is as refreshed and recharged as you are, with these tips and ideas to help your style blossom.

Interior Greenery

Growing live plants in your home is a great way to begin transitioning your home décor.

Tabletop terrariums, succulents, or ferns in a sunny nook add texture and color to your seating area. A birdbath, indoors, can be filled to make the perfect miniature garden before your outdoor plants bloom.

When selecting indoor plants, keep in mind that some houseplants are more resilient than others. Pay attention to watering instructions and the type/duration of light they require when placing them around your home.

Add Some Color

Repainting a room in the perfect pastel is an easy way to recharge your space. Don’t have the time or energy to do an entire room? Pick an accent wall! Or simply find a hue that makes you happy and add an accent chair, light fixture, or rug of your choice.

Love what you already have? You can re-paint the base of lamps, table legs, or reupholster your favorite chair …

Ombre effects are also very trendy right now! Vary the brightness of your favorite color by mixing in different amounts of white paint, and apply to a dresser, bookshelf, or accent table. Start with the darkest shade at one end and gradually paint towards the opposite side.

Fresh Fabrics

Window Treatments can create a complete transformation. Floral patterns can turn your windows into a work of art. Bold patterns can create a fresh update. Tinted sheers can soften the atmosphere.

In addition, your bedding and linens can incorporate everything from florals, to pastels, to bold brights! Store away your dark, warm décor until fall and pick items that remind you of the blooming colors outside.

Do not be afraid to mix complimentary colors as well. An arrangement of throw pillows in a combination of shades can tie together different features in your room.

Floral Prints/Artwork

Create a gallery wall with bright photo frames or floral prints. You can find springtime artwork online, or create your own!

With a few simple supplies (canvases or cardstock, stencils or natural leaves, acrylic paints) you can customize the look and style to your preferences. Check out this tutorial we found, and love! Bonus: It’s kid-friendly.

Rugs and pillows are also a fun way to introduce some non-living flowers to your spring space. Choose colors that make you happy and capture the mood of the season.

Start at the Beginning

Set the tone of your springtime oasis from the moment guests enter your home by strategically placing a small floral arrangement or statement display in your entryway. And get creative! Wooden birdcages, wire baskets, faux nests or eggs will remind everyone of the excitement springtime brings.

Tabletop accessories, such as geometric vases or floral bouquets can decorate small corner tables or shelves, as well.

Attractive Organizing

Fashionable, yet functional, purchases can create eye-catching accents to some of your most chaotic rooms. Use bright containers, or even a collection of eggcups, to organize your smaller office and kitchen supplies. Add a shelf in a bright shade, with complimentary baskets, to take full advantage of your space.

How do you transition to spring in your home? Any fun updates we did not list? We would love to hear about them in the comments below!

Brand Highlight: C.R. Plastic Products

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to our Plymouth Furniture family. An outdoor product line crafted from 100% recycled materials — C.R. Plastic Products!

What began in 1994, as an effort to divert used plastic away from landfills and oceans, has evolved into the pursuit for innovation and design in 100% recycled plastic outdoor furniture.

Jamie Bailey (co-owner and co-founder of C.R. Plastic Products Inc.) developed an innovative proprietary extrusion* process, creating a beautiful product that won’t mold, crack, or rot throughout our traditional Wisconsin seasons. The company itself is focused on maintaining ways to create sustainable, eco-friendly, outdoor furniture!

High density plastic (which is common in post-industrial and post-consumer products such as bottle caps, milk jugs, & orange juice containers) is blended together with pigment, and then melted into molds to provided a genuine lumber look. The 7/8” thick material, with solid colors throughout, has a wood grain finish, contoured backs, and custom molded arms for an unsurpassed fit and finish.

C.R. Plastic’s custom in-house molds make their durable furniture, structurally superior and easy to maintain.  It is clear to see the integrity and quality in each piece, and we are excited to share them with you.

What is the Right Mattress for Me?

Now is the best time to buy a new mattress. A new year provides a new opportunity to finally sleep in comfort and give the next 12 months all you’ve got!

However, the task of selecting a new mattress can be quite daunting. There are many manufacturers to assess, prices to compare, and variants to research. However, convenience does not always mean comfort.

SIZE

Choosing a mattress for one sleeper:

  • A bed that is too narrow will leave you feeling restricted. Size up! A spacious double bed will provide you more comfort.
  • A queen bed is great for those who prefer the extra space, but it may be too large for one individual. This is why you should always test a mattress in-store before any long-term commitment.

For partners:

  • A King or California King mattress should provide plenty of room; however, be aware of the size of your bedroom. Choosing a mattress that is too large can make you feel claustrophobic in an average or below-average space.

FIRMNESS

  • Firmness labels vary between manufacturers! The firmness of a mattress comes from the deeper, support layers. A mattress should be firm enough to provide proper support to your spine, while maintaining it’s natural curve.
  • Mattresses with “softer” comfort layers will help relieve pressure points while you sleep. Think about lying down on a hardwood floor. Where is your weight bearing down? To help relief pressure points, you want to sink into the top few inches of your mattress, in these areas.

TYPE OF MATERIALS — USED

A mattress is only as good as what is in it. Buying a mattress with unknown materials could be risky, as the mattress may soften/degrade much faster.

Even though some mattresses are more expensive, they tend to use better quality materials.

TAKE YOUR TIME

There is absolutely no “one size fits all” solution to mattress shopping, so when considering what mattress is right for you, we’re here to help! Don’t rush, and take your time … Visit the Plymouth Furniture & Bedding Showrooms today to test our variety of trusted brands and find your best mattress for 2018.

What is Tempur Material?

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are unlike any other memory foam mattress you’ve tried, because their revolutionary TEMPUR® material is an exclusive formulation that changed the way world sleeps … from the stars to your bedroom.

The innovative combination of comfort layers was originally developed by NASA to cushion and support our astronauts during lift-off. It adapts to your body shape, weight, and temperature for personalized comfort.

No matter how your sleep, TEMPUR® material responds to your body’s temperature, reducing heat and humidity while keeping your body cool. It also conforms to your body, minimizing pressure points (often experienced in ones shoulders, hips, or heels) that can keep you awake, tossing and turning through the night. These disruptions reduce the amount and quality of sleep you receive each night.

Tempur-Pedic mattresses started the memory foam craze, but have remained the industry leader due to the quality and success of TEMPUR® material. The high-density foam softens in reaction to body heat, and will mold to support a warm body in a matter of minutes.

Whether you sleep on your back, side, or stomach, you will find the perfect level of comfort and support as the mattress responds to your unique shape, weight, and temperature throughout the night.

Finally, TEMPUR® material is one of the best materials to reduce motion transfer between sleeping partners. If you share a mattress with a restless sleeper, a Tempur-Pedic mattress will help you both sleep undisturbed.

With three, unique collections Tempur-Pedic mattresses can deliver personalized support and comfort to anyone. Visit Plymouth Furniture & Bedding Showrooms, today to experience the quality and comfort that started it all!

How To Choose The Right Mattress?

Finding the right mattress can make a big difference when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.  Three elements to always consider when shopping a new mattress are:  Size, Comfort, and Durability.

Mattress Sizing

Mattress Sizes/Dimensions can vary slightly between manufacturers. You will want to look at your bed set and consider how high your mattress can sit from the floor for you to comfortably get in and out of the bed everyday.

Most mattress retailers offer three different height foundations (often called boxsprings) that will allow you to change the height of the bed without being forced to get an overly thin mattress or overly thick mattress. The three foundation options would be the standard foundation which is 9″ in height, then there is the low profile foundation which is usually 5″ in height and for bunk beds and people that really do not want much of a foundation a Bunkie board is only 1.5″ in height.

In addition, your mattress should be longer than the tallest person sleeping on it, and wide enough to accommodate side sleepers who may fold their arms and legs to get comfortable at night.

Make sure your mattress and bed set can fit comfortably within the space it is located before deciding on additional decor to compliment the sleep space.

Mattress Materials

The most important thing to consider when selecting a new mattress is how it supports your spine. You will want to find a mattress that can maintain the natural curve and alignment of your spine throughout the night, and can respond properly to your body’s movement in order to redistribute your weight evenly across the mattress.

Most mattresses are available in Firm, Medium, Plush, or Ultra Plush variations with coil and/or foam comfort layers. It is impossible to provide a “one size fits all” recommendation, and proper support and relaxation is subjective to the user. The easiest way to determine which style/type of mattress you need is to personally test them.

Mattress Durability

Today’s mattresses should be replaced every 5-7 years, based on their condition and your personal comfort.

If your mattress appears old and worn — dips and divots, sagging on the sides, visible coils — it’s a good sign you are ready for a replacement.

If your mattress no longer provides you with a comfortable support — the sides collapse when you sit on the edge, you can feel the coils, or there is creaking/shifting noise when you move — you will also want to consider new options.

The longevity of your mattress will depend on how long you sleep at night, if you use your bed for reading or working in addition to sleeping, or if you have any personal changes in weight. The more use/support mattresses provide, the faster you will need to replace them.

A simple rule-of-thumb:  If you wake up feeling fatigued or sore it’s time to replace your mattress. There are a number of highly-recommended TEMPUR-PEDIC, Sealy, and Stearns & Foster options available in our Plymouth Furniture & Bedding showrooms, and our team is always ready to help you find the perfect fit!

Lodge Furniture to Transform Your Home

Every homeowner wants their house to look good. When guests arrive, you want to amaze them and hear compliments such as, “If we had a house like this, we would stay inside forever!” Such praises mean that your home truly stands out.

However, to receive such admiration you need to have furniture that stands out from the rest. Instead of selecting furniture that every homeowner has, try something different. The best way to add a unique touch to your home is through lodge furniture. When guests enter your home, they’ll be moved by the unique feel of nature that surrounds them.

Lodge Furniture

Lodge furniture includes bedroom furnishings such as tables, stools, cabinets; and living room pieces like sofas, chairs, and ottomans. The furniture comes in a variety of wood types and designs that you can choose to best compliment the interior of your home.

Unique Feeling

Lodge furniture gives a homey feeling to your household. You can create a sleek atmosphere or more natural look by choosing different types of lodge furniture. Whichever type of lodge furniture you decide to go with, you can be sure that it will be unique and different from the more characterless furniture designs out there.

Durability

Lodge furniture is built to be durable and long lasting. There is no compromise in quality and it will stand firm for a long time. Unlike other furniture which may need to be replaced after a short while, these pieces can be passed down to your children for generations!

Some bargain-priced furniture manufacturers tend to cut corners when it comes to the quality of their products. The durableness of these investment pieces have proven to be more valuable in the long run.

Rustic Décor

The benefits of lodge furniture are huge as it will not only provide a relaxing atmosphere, but also stun your guests by the uniqueness of your home. Once you discover the enchanting, handcrafted appearance of wood furniture, you will wonder why you waited so long to transform your home. You can also accompany lodge furniture with a variety of rustic décor to make it more naturally inviting.
